Greenbuild Norfolk

We  were out and about again last weekend, this time at the Greenbuild event at Felbrigg Hall.  This was a really great venue and made for a brilliant day out for families, especially since it was free!  Guild members met lots of other stall holders, tasted the wares and caught up with familiar faces.

Our display attracted lots of attention from the public who were very engaging and interested.  Our members demonstrated a number of weaving and spinning techniques and people could try out kumohimo braiding.  There was also a lovely display of naturally dyed fibres that fuelled many conversations around experiences of success and failure with various recipes, methods, and techniques.  Lots of tips for success were swoppped!

Here we are, all set up in our cosy corner of the farmers market tent, ready to meet the visitors.

Here is Dennis Townsend, rug weaver extraordinaire! His beautiful rugs woven using only natural wool fleece and wool locks. These rugs are incredibly warm and the deep pile, wendsleydale woollen locks are pure luxury.   On the right is Margaret.  One of our newer but very talented members.  Margaret was having lots of fun weaving an effective piece on a more modern, rigid heddle style loom.

Sally Gibson displayed one of her most beautiful autumnal tapestries, expertly woven using the finest silks.  To the left is an example of a decorative twizzle, also woven by Sally but this time, created using very simple weaving sticks.

Here is the wonderful array of natural colours, skillfully crafted by Sue St John.  A naturally dyed fleece was used to create a rustic autumn wreath.  Oodles of natural colours felted and knitted…Sue’s baskets of lovely squishy, thick-and-thin handspun, handyed yarns!
