Well done to our two students on Saturday’s hand spinning class. Both beginner students progressed very well throughout the day and succeeded in going home with a two ply yarn each!
Students learned about types of natural fibre and their preparation. Hand carders were used to create rolags from washed sheep fleece. These rolags were handspun on two types of spinning wheel (one bobbin full on each), to allow the students to experience the differences. Their favourite choice of wheel was used to ply them together. The class was finished off by spinning some lovely naturally coloured blue-faced leicester wool top to create a more worstead type yarn and to experience a different preparation of fibre.
