It may have been cold and grey outside but there was colour everywhere at our Dyeing Taster Day!
We started the morning learning about tray dyeing with synthetic dyes, using small quantities of dye squirted onto cloth and yarn to create rainbow effects.
Next we had a session making colour from nature – beautiful autumnal golds and browns from Weld, Walnut and Brazilwood – we dyed a selection of yarn samples and were inspired to go home and see what other colour we could find in the kitchen and garden !
The afternoon was spent tying resists into a cotton bandana which we then dyed in a vat of woad, local colour from less than 5o miles up the road – lovely shades of blue!
