What a wonderful week!
Our tutor, Jenny Rose spent five wonderful days sharing her skills and knowledge – starting with ‘caring for and maintaining your wheel’ to ‘designer yarns’ …
It was definitely a case of ‘learning by doing’ – building on our existing skills and learning more about our craft. We had the opportunity to try spinning with various fibres, including some not tried before, like bamboo, soya and cotton.
British Wool (short, medium and long staple) to make beautiful creamy hanks of yarn
Silk – from tops, silk waste and pre-dyed cocoons from which we made mawata hankies to spin from.
Linen – We also learnt how to spin flax, grown in the Cotswolds, into linen yarn for future weave or knit projects
Five days of friendship, sharing skills and stories and although it was hard work we all thoroughly enjoyed the week and have come away with new skills and lots of ideas!
